How does it work?
This crank saver fills the 14mm airgap between the crank shaft, bolt and pulley.
It extends the woodruff key and reduces the stresses by increasing the surface are.
Why should I instal one?
Early "shortnose engines" commonly fail at the crankshaft splitting the woodruff key and tearing the key slot in the crank. This is caused by the crank's nose being too short.
Later Miatas have this issue less, but a still susceptible to this problem.
The crank saver greatly reduces the chance of the crankshaft getting damaged and/or prevent crank pulley wobble.
* Do I own a short or longnose engine?
General rule of thumb is all miatas from 1998, 1990 and early 1991 have shortnose engines.
With miatas often not completely original the best way to check is to look for the amount of slots in the crankshaft pulley.
4 (larger) slots = shortnose engine
8 (smaller) slots = longnose engine
